“Savior (Interlude)” however has an incredible feature from Baby Keem over a beautiful string arrangement. “Silent Hill” has a really good trap beat and a fun performance from Kendrick, but I’m not the biggest fan of the Kodak feature, even if it’s pretty decent. I just wish it was a little stronger sonically and vocal performance wise. The next song “Crown” is not one I return to often, but from a songwriting perspective it is one of the best. I loved her in the movie ZOLA, so it’s really cool to see her do something like this and do it this well. Kendrick’s performance is great, but Taylour Paige’s performance blew me away. The Griselda style piano beat is amazing, and the writing and execution of the concept is flawless. But then we get “We Cry Together”, which is my absolute favorite song on the album and maybe in my top 5 Kendrick songs ever. “Rich Spirit” is probably my least favorite song, as it just feels a little too detached from everything else sonically and lyrically, but I still really like it. The instrumental is great, the Sampha hook is beautiful, and Kendrick’s songwriting here is perfect. However, the next track “Father Time” is one of my favorite songs on the album. I like the song, and I really like Kendrick’s lyrics here, but it’s one of the weaker cuts on the album. I wish the same was true with “Die Hard”, but unfortunately it’s a little too bland and standard sonically to really connect with me like other tracks here. “Worldwide Steppers” is a track that took a little bit to click with me, but now that it has it’s one of my absolute favorites and I adore it. I also really like the sentiment of the song.

The next track “N95” is a great trap cut with a really fun instrumental and Baby Keem inspired performance. Kendrick’s lyrics and performance on the song are also incredible, and I could have this song on repeat forever and not get sick of it. I love how the song changes and progresses and it goes on, and I love how detailed the production is. To go track by track, the opener “United In Grief” is a perfect one and is one of my favorite Kendrick songs ever. And now that I do, I can say that this is an incredible body of work. However, as I have sat with the album and listened to it many times, these concepts and themes have started to reveal themselves and I have a better understanding of the album now. I could tell that there were a lot of themes throughout, but the album felt a little messy and scattered.

Initially, I was really enjoying the songs as individual tracks, but not really seeing how it came together as a full body of work. However, I do have some issues and I was a little underwhelmed on first listen. This song raised my expectations even more, and my hype for this album was immeasurable. And then he released “The Heart Part 5”, which was an incredible song with an equally incredible music video. So the combination of these great albums with the five year wait created very high expectations. Those two albums are simultaneously some of the most impressive bodies of work I’ve ever heard, and also some of my favorite to listen to. And as I started to get into his music more, I started to fall in love with GKMC and TPAB. As time has gone on, that album has grown off me a little, but it is still probably in my top 30 albums of all time. I first started to get into his music in 2017 with the release of DAMN., which for a long time was one of my favorite albums of all time and my favorite Kendrick album. Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite artists of all time. Morale & the Big Steppers” still comes close and is a fantastic addition to Kendrick Lamar’s legendary discography.
